Madison is nearly a year old. I cannot BELIEVE how quickly this year has flown by for me. I have been so consumed with her babydom, all else has fallen to the wayside. I watch her play all day long and nothing beats that. She has a little radio thing that plays backyardigan songs and she loves it. She swings one arm back and forth as she twists her torso. I have never seen anything cuter in my life. She loves music.
Babyproofing??! Is there such a thing, really? Madison has taken to pulling the metal vents out of the floors because all of the bathroom and bedroom doors are closed. There is nothing else dangerous she could really do. Several times, we have caught her trying to swim away, in the toilet. Yuck. YUCK. It was funny, although disgusting. She completely stopped responding to "MADISON LEIGH, NO!!!" She just smiles a coy little smile and then continues on. Funny, but bad.
This baby is crawling everywhere, and FAST. Nothing stops her. Nothing. She is walking around all the furniture and pulls herself up with such ease. I don't think she will be walking on her own for a bit longer though, just not very stable. What a joy to watch a baby grow. She can say, "mama, baba" when she wants me to hold and feed her. Talk about melting a mother's heart. I don't stand a chance. She loves her daddy and has the same ritual every day when he comes home. She pulls his pen out of his pocket and takes off his hat. They play with those for a while and she refuses to come to me after daddy is home. Ok, I see how it is!
Madison has been co-sleeping for some time now. We have thought to try, attempt, maybe, to get her to sleep in her crib. This is tough. I love having her nuzzled close at night. I know she is warm and safe, with the two people who love her most. It is tough for ME to think of giving that up to put her in a cold, lonely, little, white jail. I have been trying it out anyway. Unsuccessfully, of course. And only for naps. She does not stop crying to fall asleep. Either she falls asleep standing up or sitting with her face against the bars. What could be more pitiful? She just continues to cry softly until I take her out. She won't lay herself down and rest. It's tough. I have read where a lot of parents tried for 3-5 days, with great success. Where is my great success? What defines great success in a situation as heartbreaking as this?

Don't feel bad you are not alone on this I can assure you of that. Neither one of my girls had a bedtime routine until they were both in big girl beds!! I rocked Maddie to sleep like forever, and Bella, well she was nursed to sleep until she was almost two!! The one day I said, this has to stop and these girls need to have a routine at bedtime. I took them(awake) to their beds we all snuggled and read a few stories, said our prayers, gave hugs and kisses, and then I walked out of the room. Believe it or not it worked, I never would have imagined that it would be that easy, not in a million years!! But now at 8-8:30 they are in bed and asleep. Very rarely is it ever past 8:30 when they are asleep. I love it.
ReplyDeleteBut your little one is still little, enjoy it and don't feel gulity, not one bit. You can never get enough snuggles and soon enough she will be too busy to snuggle. do what is in your heart, that is all that matters. who cares what parenting mags and other moms think, rihgt?;0
