Relief, mystery, concern...reLIEF. Question: What is wrong with our baby? Answer: We don't know, maybe nothing, maybe something. For now, we do know this. Hirschsprung's Disease (HD) is unlikely, however still possible. Unlikely is good, it's better than likely! We like unlikely, a lot. So, our little man saw the pediatric GI surgeon. Who wondered why we were there at all and not seeing a regular doctor. Because our pediatrician, who you seem to know well referred us to YOU. Because she suspected HD, ahhhhh now he understood. He did a rectal exam on poor baby Drew. Seemed normal, good. The symptoms, although unusual do not line up well for HD. (Good. That's good, but what do they line up to?) However, he thought we should rule it out. This required a barium enema. Anyone who has ever had this done knows, babies are really fond of something like this. Or rectal exams. Andrew has an appointment with the GI specialist to check his bowels tomorrow morning. Finally. The pediatrician told me today that she suspects Hirshsprung Disease. I am devastated at this possibility, yet hopeful for his relief. This poor little man seems to hurt so much sometimes. It breaks my heart to look into his beautiful little face knowing something could be terribly wrong on the inside. In order to diagnose, he will likely have to have a barium enema and an intestinal biopsy. They can do the biolsy in the office. I do think we will have to wait for the results. Cute thing of the day Madison has done: Look up at me with pleading eyes, "ooosh, oooosh" (shoes) while handing me her barbie. She was trying to make her big girl shoes stay on the barbie doll. The size issue? No issue for a 19 mo old.

I think Madison is special. Well, of course I KNOW she is...I mean realllly special. She is fascinating to watch too. I will describe the scenarios that I think speak of her brilliance. Matt asked me to turn the tv down the other day. I looked at him funny because the remote was clearly out of my reach. Madison heard this and promptly handed me the remote. Now, he never said "remote", so I know she understood the concept of volume or changing a setting that can only be completed with a remote. Brilliant. If something is different, or out of place, she will will spot it with her eagle eye. We always keep the bathroom door closed, due to her tendency to play in the toilet. She was playing as usual this morning..I went into the bedroom for a second and came out to find she had spied the barely opened bathroom door.
