Hearts Surrendered

Every week and sometimes twice a week we go to the library to find early reader books for Drew and books about things that Madison likes to learn about.   This picture is just a sample of one week, by the end of the school week we will have read every book. So in addition to their actual school curriculum that I hand selected piece by piece they also read through these books every week. The other thing I have found so awesome is videos about every subject we could ever want to know about.  I have gotten so much incredibly useful information from other homeschool mothers who post on forums about the curriculums that work for this and that and the materials are able to find all over the Internet for free.  So instead of a learning from a boring textbook to learn out of to do a lot of hands-on stuff. In addition to that Madison and Andrew love science and science experimentbvideos and watch a lot of those.  They perform as many household experiments as they can safely, ...

She's reading historical fiction.  Her favorite though, is this horse series. Narrated by the horse. 

After many dreary and cold days we were ready for some sunshine!  Today is the first day of Spring! 

Homeschooling, though strenuous for the soul has some keen advantages. Such as, spending an afternoon at the library for a change of scenery. Or doing "lessons" outside on a beautiful day. Two days ago we went to the park and sat down on the decking. We leaned back and watched the sky. We picked out the birds we could identify. Marveled at the blue of the sky and tried to identify bird calls. It was glorious!

Studying birds today. We love identifying all the birds we see.  Drew got his eagle to study the eagle book with him.  Madison reading to us the differences in blue herons and cranes. 

A beautiful advantage of homeschooling is the fact that we can offer these kids horsemanship horseback riding lessons, gymnastics, piano lessons, and softball or basketball lessons are very same time!
