You know, I can honestly say that I have known the two most loving fathers and men in the history of the universe. SURE, my opinion may be a tad biased, but seriously. Of course I am talking about my dad, and my husband.
My dad was the sweetest man, all my life...still is. Growing up, I knew nothing but hugs and kindness from him. As a little girl, I remember the things he did with me...so many things. I remember...getting me all bundled up for the snow..putting little sandwich bags on my feet to keep the water out of my shoes. I remember him dragging me behind him on a sled (my brothers were there too) and letting us sled down the hills. I remember piggy back rides, whenever I wanted. I remember once when I was 4 he brought me flowers. I remember him giving me a little jewelry set that had a ring, a necklace and bracelet in it (it had little yellow roses on it) I remember burrying the ring in the sandbox, and losing it...he was out there with me digging around trying to help me find it. Once, at the smithsonian (which is increadibly boring place for a 6 year old girl like me, he let us look around the gift shop...I begged him for a ring that had a little green stone on it, even though I know he didn't have much money, he bought me that ring. I remember whenever he brought my mom candy on valentines day, he always had a gift for me too (usually godiva-he rocks). I remember my dad always loving me. As I got older and ventured out on my own, making my own way and my own mistakes, he was always there for me. One time, I was driving my brother around (Phil) and my gear shift broke. I could not put the car in gear to go anywhere..well I called my dad. He stopped whatever he was doing (it was in the middle of his workday) and came to rescue us. Another, I got a flat tire and I really didn't know what to do. I called my dad, and again he came to rescue me. He's done that a lot. A lot of times, it was just words of encouragement. My dad has never said a negative word to me, only words of encouragement and kindness. One thing I know about this man, he adores his children. I'll tell ya, he set the bar awefully high for any man. The only man I have ever known who could possibly compare to my dad, well...I married that one. You just don't find men like that often and I was so blessed to have in my life, not one..but two. I am a lucky girl, there is no doubt.
The moral is, I have the best dad in the world. I wish everyone could have one like him. I am SO thankful at least my children will.
Happy Fathers Day Dad, you deserve the biggest and best present ever...but you'll have to settle for a hug the next time I see you.
Happy Father's Day Matt, I love you both with all my heart and I always will.
